Nuala O'Donovan

Nuala's work combines regular patterns with the characteristics of the irregular forms of nature.  She is intrigued by the fractal patterns that occur in nature which guide her to produce her meticulously hand built sculptures.

Her patterns record a response to random events during the making process. The result of using the characteristics of fractal geometry in making decisions regarding the pieces, is that the form is resolved but always retains a sense of potential change.  They retain the transitory quality of living organisms, combiing its history, the present and the future.

The pieces are made from porcelain which is unglazed and high fired. They are pieces that develoop slowly over a period of weeks or months
