Hazel Brook

My work emerges through an abstract language of shapes, marks and colours, derived from the modernist tradition in both the visual arts and design.

The process of abstraction in my painting, drawing and printmaking, is an ever evolving one, where the liberation of ideas, feelings and creativity are inextricably linked. It is necessary for me to walk a tight rope, to take risks, to explore the unexplored. By constantly evaluating and re-evaluating what I am doing, I believe  true creativity can take place.

Some of my early love for abstraction, colour, painting and printmaking, came from the inspired teaching of artists such as John Hoyland and Alan Jones at Croydon College of Art in the 1960s.
