Ilric Shetland
LANDSCAPES
Ilric is interested in the question of what occurs when changes are made in the scale of images.
The starting point for one of his canvases can often be a small seemingly insignificant section on which he works to produce impressive and unforgettable landscapes which evoke associations with the 'American Sublime' movement in art.
SEASCAPES
The sea as image can be incredibly minimal and pared down and yet it is a subject which is almost emblematic, it is so immediate in drawing out a very personal response. Redolent with a sense of the epic and romantic universality it carries the concept of the sublime effortlessly to a very broad public. It is so saturated with affective meaning as a site of personal encounter, it presents as an incredibly complex and intriguing subject through which to explore contemporary painterly practice.
