Jacob van der Beugel

Jacob was apprenticed to Rupert Spira in 2002 and assistant to Edmund de Waal in 2004.

His new collection comprises large scale installations, inspired by 17c Dutch still life painting.  He uses memento mori and vantias themes as a starting point, which he then translates into an exciting and engaging ceramic format.

The work embraces the minimalist principle of enhancing the perceptions of viewers through the different use of surface textures and differing clay colours. He ardently believes in the idea that austerity brings a weighty clarity to his final pieces.
